Fabrikas pirmsākumi meklējami jau 1871. gadā, kad eļļas fabriku Katlakalna dzirnavu gruntsgabalā nopirka Fr. Rēders (Roeder) un G.Knops (Knopp), kas bija agrākais Līgatnes papīrfabrikas tehniskais direktors. 1872.gadā viņi uzcēla jaunus fabrikas korpusus un atvēra papīrfabriku arī Bišumuižā, ko sauca par „Reder un Knopp”. Tajā bez papīra mašīnas bija 2 papīra griežamās mašīnas un hidrauliskā prese. Šīs iekārtas darbināja divas tvaika mašīnas.
Pēc Fr. Rēdera nāves 1892. gadā, G. Knops izmaksāja mantiniekiem kompensāciju un kļuva par fabrikas vienīgo īpašnieku, 1893. gadā uzņēmums mainīja nosaukumu uz „G.Knopp”. Knopa papīrfabrika ražoja celulozi, papīru un kartonu. Pēc G. Knopa nāves 1899. gadā uzņēmums tika sadalīts mantiniekiem, tomēr tas turpināja darboties līdz pat 1.Pasaules karam, kad vērtīgākās mašīnas un iekārtas tika aizvestas uz Krieviju.
Pēc 1.Pasaules kara fabrikas darbību nesekmīgi centās atjaunot Jānis Treimanis, kas bija G.Knopa mantinieku pilnvarotā persona. Ēkas pēc 1.Pasaules kara ilgi stāvēja pamestas, līdz daļu no tām nojauca. 1926. gadā šeit sāka darboties sērkociņu fabrika „Vezuvs”. Līdzīgi kā citi rūpniecības uzņēmumi sērkociņu fabrika „Vezuvs” tika nacionalizēta 1940. gadā. Laika posmā no 1940.-1944. gadam uzņēmuma nosaukums bija Sērkociņu fabrika "Vezuv", bet no 1944.-1965. gadam - Sērkociņu fabrika "Vezuvs". 1965.gadā Sērkociņu fabrika tika likvidēta.
