Sv. Pētera luterāņu baznīca |
Pirmo reizi ēka dokumentos minēta 1209. gadā. Tagadējā trīsjomu bazilika radusies pārbūvju rezultātā 15. gadsimtā. Tās altāra daļu 15.gs. sākumā pēc Rostokas Sv.Marijas baznīcas parauga uzcēla dižgotikas stilā no turienes ataicinātā būvmeistara Johana Rumešotela vadībā. Pirmais tagadējā izskata tornis tika uzcelts 1491.gadā, bet 1666.gada 11.martā vairāk nekā 130 m augstais tornis vētrā nogāzās. Tā vietā uzcēla jaunu torni, bet tas vēl nebija pabeigts, kad 1677. gadā gāja bojā lielajā Rīgas ugunsgrēkā. 1690. gadā Rīgas pilsētas būvmeistars Ruperts Bindenšū uzcēla jaunu torni, bet 1721. gadā baznīcas tornī iespēra zibens un tas nodega. Jaunu torni būvmeistars Johans Vilberns uzcēla tikai 1746.gadā, jaunais tornis stāvēja līdz pat 2. Pasaules kara beigām, kad Sv. Pētera baznīca tika nopostīta - nodega tornis, jumts, aizgāja bojā visa baznīcas iekārta.

Sistemātiskus baznīcas atjaunošanas darbus uzsāka 1954. gadā. Vispirms atjaunoja kārniņu jumtu, 1967. gadā sākās unikālā torņa rekonstrukcija. Atšķirībā no iepriekšējiem torņiem jauno uzcēla metāla konstrukcijā, iebūvējot liftu, lai galerijas varētu izmantot par skatu platformām. Tornis ir 123,25 m augsts. Apmeklētājus paceļ līdz otrajai galerijai 72 m augstumā. Torņa atjaunošanas darbus pabeidza 1973. gada 29. jūnijā. 1975. gada jūlijā tika iedarbināts arī atjaunotais torņa pulkstenis, kam pēc vecās tradīcijas ir tikai viens - stundu rādītājs. Telpu restaurācija pilnībā pabeigta 1983. gadā.
